Purchased from Triumph Coventry in May 1962 as a North American Export and shipped from the King George Dock Hull aboard the vessel The Buffalo.

The vehicle was acquired by Mr Dave Arkle in the State of California and remained in his ownership until being returned to the UK in April 2007.

Dave Arkle started a full restoration of the vehicle commencing in 2000 lasting some 4 years. The history file contains a vast array of invoices detailing the restoration work undertaken supported by some photographs totalling $29,708 for parts alone. The restoration was incomplete when the vehicle was acquired by the Classic Carriage Company and returned to the UK.

All correct paperwork remains in the history file including the Commercial Importation from Customs and Excise, the American Title Document known as the Pink Slip, number plate transfer and the V5. The vehicle has a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate number 2007/11049

The restoration work continued over a period of the forthcoming years albeit slowly and the vehicle remained in dry storage until we acquired the vehicle in 2014. Re-commissioning of the vehicle was carried out fitting new tyres, service carburettor’s and fuel pump, chemical clean of fuel tank and fuel lines. Fit new battery, change brake and clutch fluids, engine and gearbox oils.

This TR4 is absolutely stunning finished in a most attractive colour combination of high gloss black bodywork, black upholstery and seats with white piping. The dashboard finished in un-marked walnut and matching moto-lite steering wheel makes the cabin a most attractive and welcome place to pilot this roadster. Chrome wire wheels and all bright work, retaining some original fittings are reflected in the bodywork as can be seen within the photographs.

The restoration work is total, comprising chassis powder coated, new inner/outer panels, wiring loom, brake lines, electrical items, suspension/poly-bushed/ brakes-callipers/discs/wheels/ radial tyres, cooling system/radiator/electric fan, alternator/electronic ignition. The engine being fully re-built as the gearbox with overdrive operational on 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears. The rear axle/prop shaft couplings etc.

The vehicle is supplied with a new hood and tonneau, spare wheel and tools.

In effect this Triumph is as new incorporating many sensible modern upgrades but not detracting from the overall originality.

The TR4 returns a good turn of speed and acceleration totally at home with modern motoring. The vehicle is Road Tax exempt and supplied with a new twelve month MOT.

For the sum of £17,770 a very worthwhile investment with prices now rising into the middle £20,000 and soon beyond.
