This Container Van was built by VW in Australia but this actual vehicle was produced specifically for the Australian army to monitor bomb blasts in the outback, therefore it differs from the other 123 container vans sold and the previous owners have respected the vehicles originality and made very few alterations. Restored in 2007 to what can only be described to an exceptional standard with body panels replaced as required and clothed in Lotus British Racing Green. The paint was refreshed in 2015 and is blemish free, the original viewing hatches are still in place and the large windows offer plenty of light. Whilst this VW bus may have come out of the bush many years ago it looks like it has just left the painters oven and the exterior is nothing but immaculate. The interior has been lined with polished alloy with a carpeted floor. The seats, seven in total are from a Land Rover Discovery offering exceptional comfort. Mechanically the rear positioned engine is nothing short of being described as exceptional which can be seen from the photographs. Both engine and gearbox were reconditioned in 2017 with a twin port 1600cc twin carburettor power plant fitted with a vintage stainless steel exhaust system producing a wonderful note. Performance is remarkable, the specification time of 0-60mph can easily be halved and it will cruise easily at 65mph.
It should be noted this VW is probably the only surviving bay window version in existence as most are split windows. If the rarest of affordable VW Camper/Van is what you require this is it. All the work has been done, the vehicle is ready to go and be enjoyed. Not to be missed, be quick to purchase a unique part of VW history never to be repeated.
