This MGB V8 conversion has been carried out from a 1979 donor vehicle that was registered on the 1st October 1979 and had remained in single ownership with mileage of 40,000 until the conversion commenced in 1993. The conversion consisted of the donor vehicle being stripped of totally everything and any body panels that were not free from rust/damage were replaced with new. This comprised of wings, inner panels, engine bay, bonnet, boot and doors. The body was rust proofed, painted with etch primer, followed by primer and then seven coats of 2 pack gloss finish in red. The V8 engine transplant is a Rover 3.5 litre with a unleaded head fitted, twin SU carburettor’s with KN filters. The exhaust headers being channelled out through the inner wings to reduce heat, (something that British Leyland should have done on the MGB GT). A full custom built stainless steel exhaust fitted. Gearbox 5 speed mated to the correct ratio differential as fitted to the V8 MGB GT. Brakes from the MGB GT and 15″ MGC wire wheels shod with Pirelli radial tyres. The suspension receiving up-rated shock absorbers. The interior being re-trimmed in black leather with black wool carpets to cockpit, boot/spare wheel. A new hood and full/half tonneau’s supplied. A wooden walnut dashboard and leather Mota-Lite steering wheel set off this MG beautifully. This vehicle is quick off the mark, tight and rattle free responsive and exciting with a most wonderful sound from the V8 engine. Turns heads and a true delight. The installed sound system probably will never be used, the engine and exhaust provide the enjoyment.
The conversion being fully documented complete with a photographic inventory supported by many, many bills/invoices The vehicle has been driven 14,000 miles since the re-build which demonstrates the standard of the quality of engineering applied to this conversion. In fact its not without exaggeration to state this is probably the finest conversion we have witnessed to date.
