The legend of the Double Six originates in the late 1920’s when Daimler looked to challenge Rolls Royce and their new Phantom; the name carried over to all Daimler Cars fitted with the Jaguar V12 from 1993. The 1997 range brochure for Jaguar Cars concludes the Double Six to be ‘the pinnacle of automotive engineering’ with luxury and build quality that is undeniably Daimler.

Country Classic Cars is thrilled to present this LWB Daimler Double Six (X305) from 1996 on behalf of the current owner with just 70243 miles travelled, enjoying a corresponding MOT/service history and will be sold with the private plate currently fitted. As always, Country Classic Cars will also carry out a full inspection looking to rectify known mechanical issues prior to sale. We pride ourselves on offering an honest ‘warts and all’ appraisal of every vehicle we offer for sale, this avoids buyer disappointment often resulting from a lack of detail within sales adverts.

Visually the long wheelbase version enjoys a presence, finished in Grey metallic with arrow straight panels featuring factory gaps it takes close inspection to locate blemishes. The sunroof lid has a small mark on the o/s front corner whilst a tiny area of lacquer has lifted on the edge of the boot lid and finally, we found a regular stone chip leading of the bonnet, all images available. Original factory alloys are undamaged and come dressed in recent Pirelli rubber whilst lights, lenses and chrome trims present correctly.

Under the bonnet is certainly impressive, the V12 block retains its bright silver finish and contrasts with the black rocker covers. No evidence of leaks both past or present whilst the bay area is remarkably clean, original and features factory decals to both side and front panels. A large history file contains reams of paperwork and invoices starting with the most recent:

July 2021 Full engine service + coolant MOT @ 70144

August 2020 Steering rack gaiters + 2 tyres @ 68480

June 2016 Engine service @ 61270

March 2016 Fr Brake Discs + Calipers + Starter motor @ 60249

June 2014 Full engine service @ 53466

May 2012 Pas Rack and full service @ 48623

July 2011 Gearbox service

Invoices totalling over £5k for service-related work carried out during the last decade also the file contains every previous tax disc, MOT certificates, original brochures plus manuals on disc. Three keys and a pair of remotes (that also activate the alarm) come with the car.

On the road the V12 makes every journey an experience.  Instant start up that quickly settles so that when drive is selected there is no ‘thud’ and you majestically take off; it’s no surprise Royalty preferred the big Daimler’s. The GM four speed just slides between ratios and whilst the drive in the Double Six is relaxed and leisurely, staggering performance is waiting just under your right foot; 0-60mph in just 6.8 seconds and limited to 155mph. Although many believe it’s the mid-range that dominates the senses, courtesy of torque figures 353 ftlbs @ 2850rpm and 313bhp @ 5350rpm. The majority of the time this engine operates in whisper mode and with suspension to match the Daimler glides along in seamless motion.

Luxury fills the cabin, the finest materials only within the Double Six including inlaid burr walnut throughout, all in showroom condition. As are the deep pile carpets, protected with overmats and finally factory supplied lambswool footwell rugs. Quality leather seating that offers no wear, even the drivers side bolster is blemish free and as standard the front seats are heated with multiple electric adjustments such as headrests, height and lumber. Rear passengers can recline in the individually heated rear seats (an expensive option) which also house a central console with a wide array of rear seat controls. Picnic tables and sunshades, with excellent air conditioning/climate control which operates perfectly and makes up for the sunroof not operating. Factory in-car entertainment is mated with the boot mounted CD autochanger and Harmon/Kardon amplifier that plays via multiple speakers throughout the interior. It is actually easier to detail what the LWB doesn’t come with and unless mentioned every button, dial and switch operates as it should.  Often listed as a limousine, the Double Six is as good as it gets in classic luxury at a fraction of what it cost new.

This V12 Daimler is an exceptional example and therefore is expected to attract a lot of attention; to avoid disappointment early contact is recommended.
