£4,795

Whilst Jaguar’s XK8 was launched in 1996 (to great fanfare) the supercharged XKR version would take a further two years before buyers could sample 370bhp from its 32 valve 4.0 litre V8; improved with an Eaton built supercharger and electronically limited to 155mph.

Country Classic Cars are very pleased to have on consignment a 2001 Jaguar XKR with just 76k miles travelled and enjoying a huge history file whilst being offered at an extremely competitive sale price. One of 9661 coupe models built the first owner was not satisfied with the host of standard features included, additional options were spec’d including easy entry steering, folding exterior mirrors and heated seats. As previously mentioned, an A4 box file is filled with invoices and details of service work carried out, far too much to list here but this car’s history becomes more relevant from 2008. Images show superficial damage to the front o/s, nose section, bonnet and headlight but front panel, radiator and hoses etc were unaffected. This light damage surprisingly resulted in a CAT D repair. This failed to deter the XKR’s previous owner 2009-2020 a knowledgeable technician who kept a detailed log of work carried out whilst in his care.

2009 49k miles: New cam chain & tensioners. New anti-roll bar bushes rear 50k service, poly bush kit fitted, new CD changer. Gearbox service, stainless tail pipes and rear shocks

2010 55k service, front wheel bearing, new upper and lower ball joints, track rod ends, parking sensors (front) & electronic power steering damper.

2011 full sports (SS) exhaust system, new subframe mounts, gearbox oil 59k miles, alloy bumper beam, 60k service

2012 two Toyo tyres rear, xenon headlight upgrade, brake fluid change, new drive belts.

2013 ‘Real gauge’ oil pressure and coolant upgrades, oil change at 65k.

2014 Fresh rear wheel bearings, A/C recharge, poly-bush rear anti roll bar.

2015 70k service, drive shaft UJ’s replaced.

2016 2 x upstream oxygen sensors and battery.

2018 2 x front tyres (73k)

2019 new roof lining & n/s front shock absorber.

The XKR was then sold to its current owner who has carried out coolant & brake fluid changes plus a service during 2020, followed by its most recent service in 2022 @ 75351 which is under 1k miles ago.

At Country Classic Cars we find it’s best to present a ‘warts and all’ detailed write up of any classic we are requested to sell. This helps to avoid ‘buyer’s remorse’ especially for those purchasing from abroad or interested parties travelling distances to view. The exterior presents very well, Pacific Blue does suit the coupe, with perfect gaps and razor-sharp panels it took a keen eye to locate issues. We did note several small stone chips to the nose with a light craze in one area, plus a tiny dent to the n/s front wing. The Dorchester Grey trim that surrounds the rear screen features two small areas where the paint has lifted, also a tiny area above the driver door has a similar issue: images available. Finally, the n/s rear alloy has a small kerb mark. As the history confirms, fresh Dunlop Sportmax tyres are fitted to the front with older (50% worn) Toyo’s on the rear. The interior screams quality, ivory leather seating offers negligible signs of wear, concours clean, as are the Sable carpets having been protected by factory overmats. Bur walnut veneer contains a series of clocks and gauges, everything operated correctly when tested including the air con which proved to be a life saver on one of the hottest days this summer. Overall, the cabin area is very difficult to fault, factory in car entertainment also features Alpine speakers with trim and fabrics that belie twenty years of use and wouldn’t look out of place in any current Jaguar showroom. The XKR is all about the drive; when you turn the key and that V8 barks into life it all makes sense. Once warm the motor enjoys a healthy 3.5 bar oil pressure at idle and there is little doubt this V8 is keen, little throttle pressure required with slick ratio changes from the 5-speed auto box whilst the ride is what you should expect from a high end Grand Tourer … smooth, quick and extremely comfortable. Rarely has the phrase ‘so much car for your money’ been more apt and Country Classic Cars welcome any inspection, we are convinced this XKR will soon enjoy a new custodian.
